Previous Posters...

With all the live briefs of late, I realized that not all of my previous ones had been blogged. Below are a few posters I did just as I set of into the world of Graphic Design.

For the poster above, I was contacted by Newcastle Knights Basketball Team of Newcastle University. I was asked to create a poster advertising the upcoming trials for the team. With it being a relatively straight forward brief, I simply recreated the team logo and played on the theme 'Knights'. The poster was a success for the client.

Above are the front and back of a flyer I created during a collaborative project with a graphic artist called Ryan Dutton, for the company Alpha49Promotions. We were asked to create a flyer and poster design which could be used to advertise the companies launch night. 5000 flyers and 50 posters were printed for the event of which I attended to do the photography for the evening.

Thought this might look quite tasty on the ol' blog. Inspirational stuff.

Why do I do it to myself?

So within one week, whilst being hard at work with University projects, I decided to take on two separate live briefs for clients in Leeds, both wanting posters to advertise upcoming student Christmas Parties. The first poster I did late last week I posted here. The second poster was to advertise the Student Christmas Party at my University, Leeds College of Art and Design. I was quite surprised to get this job as it could have easily been opened up to the entire college of all ages and courses. However, I got it and I have just completed it...

Poster Two

Poster Three

I was given short notice for both of projects and was asked to create something suitable to my target audience quickly and efficiently. I managed to turn round three to four samples for each brief within the course of two separate evenings.
It makes me wonder why I take on the briefs which are so time restricted which ultimately limits room for creativity. It is a definite love/hate thing. I think I like the challenge and enjoy seeing what I can come up with, although a lot of the time I am not happy with my final product, yet the client is. I feel that he fact its rushed takes away the sense of professionalism in my work, which I am constantly aiming for. A more thoughtful and contemporary approach needs to be taken.

I think i'll just call it character building for now.

Life Is Better On The Other Side Of The Camera.

I just came across these images I created a while back in the deep, dark corners of my Mac. I made these when I worked for tilllate.com, the first image I used as my profile banner for the site and the second I made for a laugh through popular demand.

Charles Morris Christmas Poster Design

I was asked to create a poster advertising the Student Christmas Party for Charles Morris Student Accommodation at Leeds University. No real brief was set and so I was forced to just go for it. The name of the event is "Jingle Bell Rock"... and with that and the information to hand, away I went...

First attempt.

Second attempt.

For my first attempt, I simply designed to the theme of Christmas as the event name gave me nothing to work with really. On completion, it was clear it wasn't very fitting for a student Christmas Party, more Primary School if anything. I then decided to start again this time trying to create a slightly darker image of Christmas, so with the concept 'naughty or nice?', I created a new poster. The general santa figure gives of the idea of 'nice' and by adding a censor bar over the eyes implies 'naughtiness', exaggerated with the slogan "Let's Get F**ked".

I sent both versions over to the client and the second was chosen. Despite the poster getting high praise, I still feel unhappy with it. I don't know whether it is because I had been looking at it constantly for an couple of hours or what, but it still lacks the sense of professionalism I am looking for.
